Academics
History classConserve School’s challenging and engaging courses immerse students in a blend of environmental studies, college-preparatory academics, and outdoor activities – all on Conserve School’s picturesque 1200-acre wilderness campus in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. A semester at Conserve School is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for high school students to challenge their minds, sharpen their academic skills, stretch their muscles, and get their hands dirty while learning to be environmental stewards.
Our Faculty

Science classConserve School students work with highly educated teachers who have many years of experience and enjoy collaborating with young people. All Conserve School classroom teachers have advanced degrees, some in subject areas, others in education, as well as professional experience in the fields they teach. Our University of Wisconsin graduate fellows live with students in the residence houses, teach Field Instruction, and lead extracurricular activities, all while pursuing environmental education master's degrees.

Curriculum

Studying a chrysalisOur academic program is made up of three main types of courses, Core Courses, Continuity Courses, and Electives. Core Courses in science, English, history, and physical education are designed around environmental themes, include many outdoor activities, and are often integrated with one another. Continuity courses keep students on track with sending school curricula in skill-based disciplines like math and foreign language. Electives include AP Environmental Science and art classes that use natural and recycled materials and that focus students on the beauty of the natural world.

Please see our Curriculum Overview for a more detailed explanation of our academic program.

Visits

We frequently host groups of educators from high schools and universities interested in learning more about how we blend environmental and outdoor education with college-preparatory academics. We welcome families and community members as well and are always happy to arrange a tour and classroom visits for anyone interested in learning more about our unique semester school. Please feel free to call or e-mail to set up a visit so you can learn more about us. We would love to show you around!
