James R. Lowenstine grew up boating, hiking, fishing, and hunting at Lowenwood, his family’s Northwoods estate. As a child, he developed a deep attachment to the lakes, forests, and wildlife on this land. As an adult, Jim continued to return to Lowenwood every few months and usually stayed here for several weeks each summer. Spending a few hours on our campus makes it easy to understand why Jim cherished his time at Lowenwood. Out of respect for Jim’s deep affection for the land that is now Conserve School, we continue to use the name “Lowenwood” to refer to our 1200 acres.
